October is one of my favorite months to be outside. The cooler days and changing leaves make it a great time to slow down and enjoy your property.
It’s also when our team starts looking ahead. The landscape may be slowing down, but there’s still plenty we can do to help it through winter and prepare for next spring.
This month, I wanted to share a few things we’re paying attention to, from garden care and tree assessments to winter preparation. Some involve getting work done. Others are as simple as knowing what to leave alone.
Landscape Care: Roots can keep growing even as plants slow down above ground. Now is a good time to tend garden beds and address trouble spots before winter.
Assessment & Pruning: Thinning leaves make damaged branches easier to spot. We can assess concerns and plan winter pruning around each plant’s needs for healthier growth and better structure.

Leaf & Garden Bed Care: A light layer of leaves or pine needles can nourish soil and insulate roots. Keep thick piles off grass and avoid smothering plants.
Landscape Winter Prep: Prepare irrigation systems, fountains, containers, and tender plants for freezing weather. Check walkways and low spots where water may collect and freeze.
Design & Planning: Thinking about new garden beds, more privacy, or a better outdoor space? Let’s discuss your ideas and make a plan before the spring rush.
Did You Know? Roots can continue developing while the soil stays warm, even after leaves drop. Fall care still makes a difference. Let’s give your property the care it needs this season. Contact Cedarwood for fall maintenance, winter pruning, or landscape planning.
